At Least 37 Killed in Suspected Boko Haram Attack in Nigeria

Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a village in northeastern Nigeria’s Yobe state, killing at least 37 people, Reuters reports.

The militants, riding motorcycles, opened fire on a market and set homes and shops on fire. They also chased fleeing villagers into the bush, where more people were killed. The attack is believed to be in retaliation for the killing of two suspected Boko Haram members by local vigilantes.

The military recovered 37 bodies, but local residents estimate that the actual number of casualties could exceed 100. The militants also rigged the route to the village with explosives, which were defused by the military.
