Ukraine’s top commander General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces are continuing their advance in Russia’s Kursk region, having successfully captured 100 settlements, Reuters reports.
The Kursk operation, now three weeks old, aims to divert Russian troops from other fronts like Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. Syrskyi noted that approximately 30,000 Russian servicemen have been redeployed to the Kursk front, with this number expected to grow. Furthermore, Syrskyi disclosed that Ukrainian forces had captured 594 Russian soldiers during the Kursk operation.
Despite the success in Kursk, Syrskyi emphasized that Russia is reinforcing its positions on the Pokrovsk front, a coal mining city that serves as a critical transport hub. The situation there remains challenging, with Russia using extensive artillery and aviation support, to exert pressure on Ukrainian positions, disrupt supply lines, and actively try to encircle Ukrainian troops.
