Russia reported that its troops had repelled an attempt by Ukrainian forces to infiltrate its border in the Bryansk region, following a similar incursion by Ukraine into the Kursk region earlier this month, Reuters reports.
The attack in Bryansk, about 240 km from Kursk, was thwarted by Russian border guards and military units, suggesting Ukraine aims to expand its efforts to bring the war to more border areas. Ukraine’s recent cross-border actions, including a surprise assault on Kursk on August 6, are seen as efforts to protect its territory by neutralizing Russian military threats near the border. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that these incursions aim to prevent Russian attacks on Ukrainian towns and villages.
Meanwhile, in southern Russia’s Volgograd region, a Ukrainian drone struck near a military air base, causing a fire but no casualties. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down 28 drones over its territory.
