A school employee fatally shot three staff members, including the school dean, a secretary, and a teacher, in the western Bosnian town of Sanski Most, before attempting suicide, Reuters reports.
The shooter, who used an automatic rifle, was then gravely injured in his suicide attempt and was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. The high school was closed for summer holidays, so no students were present. The shooter, reportedly a janitor with a history of conflicts with the school management, targeted specific individuals and an investigation is ongoing.
Mass shootings are uncommon in the Western Balkans, despite the prevalence of weapons from the 1990s wars.
