Ukraine announced it conducted its largest long-range drone strike of the war on four Russian military airfields overnight, Reuters reports.
The attack targeted air bases “Khalino,” “Savasleyka,” “Borisoglebsk,” and “Baltimor” in the Voronezh, Kursk, and Nizhniy Novgorod regions, primarily aiming at fuel and aviation weapon storage sites. The strikes aimed to weaken Moscow’s capacity to use warplanes for bomb attacks on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the strikes as “timely” and “accurate.” Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 117 drones and four tactical missiles during the attack.
The drone strikes follow Ukraine’s recent battlefield gains in Russia’s Kursk region. Since the incursion, Russian guided bomb attacks on Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region have decreased.
