Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki Dies Aged 56 from Lung Cancer

Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube and a long-time Google executive, has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with lung cancer, Reuters reports.

Wojcicki’s husband Dennis Troper announced her passing on Facebook, highlighting her dedication to philanthropy and cancer research during her illness. Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised her contributions to the tech world and her efforts to improve lives through her philanthropy.

Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 and played a key role in its growth, including overseeing the acquisition of YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion. She became YouTube’s CEO in 2014, a position she held until stepping down in 2023 to focus on personal matters and was succeeded by Neal Mohan. She had planned to take an advisory role at Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
