UK’s Sunak Says First Migrant Flight to Rwanda in 10-12 Weeks

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced plans to begin deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda within 10 to 12 weeks, aiming to curb the influx of migrants into Britain, Reuters reports.

Sunak is pushing the legislation despite opposition, intending to use commercial charter planes to transport migrants. The plan targets migrants, many of whom arrive in Britain via risky journeys across the English Channel. Critics argue that deporting people to Rwanda is inhumane and question its safety. The plan faces challenges in the House of Lords and could encounter legal obstacles even if it passes Parliament

Sunak hopes the policy will bolster his party’s popularity before the upcoming election, particularly among Conservative voters concerned about immigration. However, Labour, currently leading in the polls, opposes the scheme and vows to scrap it if they win power.
