Former UK PM Theresa May to Quit as Lawmaker

Former British Prime Minister Theresa May announced that she will not seek re-election, bringing an end to her 27-year career in parliament, Reuters reports.

May’s tenure was defined by her tumultuous leadership during the Brexit era, which saw her take over as Prime Minister in 2016 after David Cameron’s resignation following the Brexit referendum. Despite her efforts, she was unable to deliver Brexit on schedule or gain parliamentary approval for her exit plan, ultimately resigning in 2019.

Since leaving office, she has focused on combating modern slavery and human trafficking. May’s departure comes amidst polls indicating that the Conservative Party is likely to lose power to the opposition Labour Party in the upcoming election.
