Several individuals from India and Nepal have ended up on the frontlines of the Russia-Ukraine war against their will, after being deceived by false promises of employment abroad, The Guardian reports.
They were promised jobs abroad in security or as military helpers but were coerced into signing contracts they didn’t understand and had their passports confiscated upon arrival in Russia. These individuals received minimal training before being deployed to war zones, where some have been injured or killed.
Families are desperately trying to rescue their loved ones, but efforts have been largely unsuccessful. Both the Indian and Nepalese governments are attempting to assist their citizens trapped in this perilous situation, but the exact number of individuals affected remains uncertain.
