Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan Both Declare Victory in Pakistan Elections

Former Pakistani prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan both claimed victory in Pakistan’s recent elections marked by delayed results and militant attacks, Reuters reports.

Sharif’s party won the most seats by a single party with 69 of 245, but supporters of imprisoned Imran Khan, who ran as independents due to his party’s ban, secured the most seats overall at 98.

Sharif announced his party’s intention to form a coalition government as they failed to secure a clear majority. Khan, who remains in jail, rejected Sharif’s claim, citing alleged rigging and urging his supporters to celebrate their perceived victory.
