Russia and Ukraine have conducted a prisoner exchange, the first since the crash of a Russian plane that Moscow claimed carried 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war (PoWs), BBC reports.
Russia’s Defense Ministry states that each side received 195 soldiers in the swap. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reports that 207 Ukrainian soldiers and civilians were returned.
Kyiv has cast doubt on Moscow’s claims that Ukrainian PoWs were on the crashed plane, and Russian investigators now suggest the military transport plane was shot down by a missile in the Belgorod region.
