Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been convicted of revealing official secrets and sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Pakistani court, Associated Press reports.
Khan, who was ousted in a no-confidence vote in 2022, was convicted in the “cipher case” for allegedly revealing state secrets by displaying a confidential document at a rally. Khan claims the document was evidence of threats against him, alleging a US-backed conspiracy for his removal by the military and the government in Pakistan.
Khan maintains his innocence, claiming the trial is a sham, and plans to appeal the conviction. The conviction is part of several legal cases against Khan, who is already serving a three-year term and faces over 150 pending cases.
