A Ukrainian drone has reportedly struck an oil storage depot in Klintsy, western Russia, causing a massive blaze in the latest escalation of attacks on Russian soil, Associated Press reports.
The recent strike ignited four oil reservoirs with a total capacity of 6,000 cubic meters causing a significant fire. There were no casualties reported, and 32 people were evacuated. Ukrainian President Zelensky has vowed to hit more targets inside Russian border regions.
In addition to the oil storage depot, Ukrainian drones reportedly attacked a gunpowder mill in Tambov, south of Moscow. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that a Ukrainian drone was downed near St. Petersburg.
Russia’s air defenses concentrated in occupied parts of Ukraine leave more distant targets vulnerable. Belgorod, a Russian city near the border, canceled events due to the drone threat, marking the first known cancellation in Russia due to drones.
