Iran has launched missile and drone strikes against bases it claimed belonged to the militant group Jaish al-Adl in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province. The strikes have raised tensions between the two countries, and they follow Iranian attacks in Iraq and Syria, Associated Press reports.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the strikes, describing them as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace, resulting in the death of two children and injuries to three girls.
Baluchistan province, where the strikes occurred, has faced a low-level insurgency. Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant group based in Pakistan, has previously claimed responsibility for bombings and kidnappings of Iranian border police.
The attacks on Iraq and Syria also drew condemnation from Iraq, which labeled them a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty and recalled its ambassador from Tehran.
