Pakistan’s election body has rejected former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nomination to contest the 2024 national elections in two constituencies, Reuters reports.
The Election Commission of Pakistan cited reasons such as Khan not being a registered voter of the constituency and his disqualification due to a corruption conviction.
Khan has faced political and legal challenges since his ousting in April 2022 and a subsequent three-year jail term for unlawfully selling state gifts while in office. He alleges he’s being targeted by the military, which the military denies.
Meanwhile, the election commission accepted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s nomination from two constituencies, pending a January hearing on a life ban on holding public office.
