Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Sevmash shipyard to commission new nuclear submarines, highlighting Russia’s military strength amid the conflict in Ukraine, Associated Press reports.
The commissioned submarines include the Emperor Alexander III, armed with 16 nuclear-tipped Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, and the Krasnoyarsk, a Yasen-class submarine designed for anti-submarine warfare and ground target attacks.
Putin announced plans for three more Borei-class submarines and five additional Yasen-class submarines. The visit emphasized Putin’s focus on bolstering Russia’s nuclear forces amid tensions with the US and NATO allies.
