Social media platform X has filed a lawsuit against Media Matters for America, alleging it manufactured a report to show advertisers’ content alongside neo-Nazi and white nationalist posts with the intent to drive advertisers away, AP News reports.
The lawsuit alleges that Media Matters manipulated algorithms and created misleading juxtapositions of ads next to hateful material. Advertisers, including Apple, IBM, and NBCUniversal, have paused advertising on X due to concerns about their ads appearing next to hate speech.
Media Matters denies the accusations and stands by its reporting. The liberal advocacy group called the lawsuit “frivolous” and an attempt to silence critics.
