Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is reportedly working on a handle marketplace to enable the purchase of account names left unused by their original registrants, Forbes reports.
The initiative has been rumored for several months and recently began rolling out, with email solicitations reportedly sent to potential buyers, requesting a flat fee of $50,000 to initiate a purchase.
This move follows Elon Musk’s announcement in late 2022 that he planned to free up a large number of handles that were registered by bots and trolls.
