France has reported over 1,000 anti-Semitic incidents following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, France 24 reports.
He stated that anti-Semitic acts have surged, with 486 people arrested for such offenses, including 102 foreigners. Paris police chief Laurent Nunez stated that the Paris region alone saw 257 anti-Semitic acts and 90 arrests.
This surge in anti-Semitic incidents follows the Hamas attack on Israel, which killed 1,400 people and led to Israel’s military campaign against the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 9,700 deaths.
France has a significant Jewish population, estimated at over 500,000, making it the largest in Europe and the third-largest globally.
