Pakistani security forces have detained and deported dozens of Afghans living in the country illegally as part of a new anti-migrant crackdown, AP News reports.
This policy targets all undocumented or unregistered foreigners, but it primarily affects some 2 million Afghans in Pakistan without documentation.
The move has drawn criticism from UN agencies, rights groups, and the Taliban-led Afghan administration. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the forced expulsion of Afghans and urged Pakistan not to continue.
There are also Afghan refugees in Pakistan waiting for relocation to the US under a special refugee program after fleeing the Taliban takeover.
