More Than 2,000 People Dead After Earthquake Hits Afghanistan

A powerful earthquake struck western Afghanistan, killing at least 2,000 people and causing widespread destruction, AP News reports.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.3, hit a densely populated area near Herat, followed by several strong aftershocks.

Entire villages have been flattened with over 1,300 homes destroyed, hundreds of people remained trapped and more than 1,000 were injured.

The lack of disaster management capacity and rescue equipment could potentially increase the death toll in the affected region.
