Michael Gambon, who played Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series, has passed away after becoming ill with pneumonia at the age of 82, Al Jazeera reports.
Gambon was best known for his portrayal of Dumbledore, which he took over in the third Harry Potter film after he replaced the late Richard Harris in 2004.
Other notable roles include a mob leader in “The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover” (1989) and King George V in “The King’s Speech” (2010).
His remarkable performances earned him four BAFTA awards, three Olivier Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Gambon received a Commander of the British Empire honor in 1992 and was knighted in 1998 for his contributions to drama.
