Envoys from Azerbaijan and Armenia are meeting in Brussels for the first talks since Azerbaijan’s takeover of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, The Guardian reports.
This meeting comes after Azerbaijan’s forces took control over the breakaway region, with both countries’ leaders scheduled to meet next month.
Thousands of refugees have fled Nagorno-Karabakh following Azerbaijan’s offensive, putting significant strain on border towns and hotels.
Russia and the US have accused each other of destabilizing the South Caucasus region, with the US blaming Russia for not intervening in Azerbaijan’s takeover.
