British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is reportedly considering extending deadlines for bans on new gasoline and diesel cars, and on new natural gas home heating, AP News reports.
Sunak argues that the country must fight climate change without penalizing workers and consumers, a move some of the Conservative Party welcomed.
However, it faces criticism from political opponents, environmental groups and parts of the UK industry.
The government had previously pledged to reduce emissions by 68% of 1990 levels by 2030 and reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
