The UK has officially designated Russia’s Wagner paramilitary group as a terrorist organization, BBC reports.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman described Wagner as a “threat to global security” and a “terrorist” organization serving the Kremlin’s political goals.
This ban makes it illegal to either belong to or support Wagner, with potential penalties of up to 14 years in prison or fines for those aiding the group.
Wagner was actively involved in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, but faces leadership challenges following the death of founder Yevgeny Prigozhin.
