A biography of Elon Musk reveals that the billionaire ordered the shutdown of Starlink’s satellite network to prevent a Ukrainian attack, CNBC reports.
The network interference over Crimea disrupted a Ukrainian attack on the Russian fleet during the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Musk expressed concern that Ukraine’s “mini Pearl Harbor” attack on Russia’s warships would lead to a major escalation and provoke nuclear war.
He emphasized that Starlink was intended for peaceful purposes like internet access, not drone strikes.
Musk’s decision was criticized by a top aide to Ukraine’s President, stating that his decision allowed the Russian fleet to fire missiles at Ukrainian cities.
