Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence has published an interview with alleged Russian pilot Maksym Kuzminov, who defected to Ukraine with a Mi-8 helicopter, Insider reports.
Kuzminov, a former captain in Russia’s 319th separate helicopter regiment, said that Ukrainian intelligence helped him move his family out of Russia.
Kuzminov said that he defected because he did not want to commit war crimes, urging others to follow his example.
Ukraine has sought to incentivize Russian troops to defect, offering monetary rewards to those who defect with their equipment.
