Turkish Central Bank Raises Interest Rates to 25%

Turkey’s central bank has raised its interest rates by 7.5%, increasing the main policy rate from 17.5% to 25%, CNBC reports.

The rate hike is seen as a step towards policy orthodoxy and the Turkish lira rallied against the US dollar and euro following the announcement.

However, the inflation rates remain high and the central bank recently revised its year-end inflation forecast from 22.3% to 58%.
