Charles Martinet Retires From Voicing Mario

Charles Martinet, the iconic voice actor behind Mario for more than three decades, is stepping back from recording character voices for Nintendo, The Variety reports.

Instead, he will take on the role of a “Mario Ambassador,” traveling the world and interacting with fans on behalf of the gaming company.

Martinet, 67, has been the iconic voice of Mario since his debut in 1996’s Super Mario 64 and has voiced various characters in over 150 Nintendo games.
