Russia has launched a rocket carrying the Luna-25 lunar landing craft, marking Russia’s first moon mission since 1976, AP News reports.
The Russian lunar is set to reach the moon’s south pole on Aug. 23, the same day as an Indian spacecraft that was launched on July 14.
The Luna-25’s mission is to collect and study moon rocks and dust samples to understand the lunar environment and prepare for future moon bases.
