Chinese regulators have proposed new rules to limit smartphone screen time for people under the age of 18 to a maximum of two hours per day, CNBC reports.
The Cyberspace Administration of China proposes that smartphones should include a “minor mode” on smartphones for children.
The mode will have age-based restrictions on daily usage ranging from 40 minutes to two hours, in order to curb addiction among young users.
Companies like Tencent and ByteDance, which operate major mobile apps in China, could be affected if the rules become law.
