On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in St. Petersburg, Al Jazeera reports.
The two leaders discussed Ukraine’s counteroffensive and Putin stated that the counteroffensive “has failed.”
Last month, Ukraine began its long-anticipated counteroffensive, but has so far only made small gains.
Lukashenko confirmed that fighters from Russia’s Wagner Group are now training the Belarus army.
Lukashenko mentioned that the Wagner Group asked to cross into Poland, but he has kept them in central Belarus as agreed.
Poland is moving additional troops to its border with Belarus in response to Wagner fighters training Belarus’ army.
Putin warned Poland that any aggression towards Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.
