Google and Facebook plan to block Canadian news on their platforms in Canada following a new law that requires payments to local news publishers, CNBC reports.
The Canadian media industry has been advocating for stricter regulations on tech giants to recoup financial losses in the online advertising market.
The government estimates that news businesses could receive around 330 million Canadian dollars annually through the legislation.
Both Google and Facebook have argued against the law, considering it unsustainable for their businesses.
