Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Dies Aged 86

Media tycoon and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has died at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan at the age of 86, The Guardian reports.

Berlusconi had been suffering from leukemia and had recently developed a lung infection for which he had to spend six weeks in hospital.

He formed four Italian governments with his party Forza Italia between 1994 and 2011. The party is currently a junior partner in Italy’s ruling coalition.

Berlusconi’s career was plagued by sex scandals, countless allegations of corruption, and a tax fraud conviction.
