Ukraine’s GDP Fell by 29% in 2022 Following Russia’s Invasion

In 2022, Ukraine’s gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 29.1% following Russia’s invasion of the country, according to Ukrainian authorities, reports Reuters.

Ukraine is a major exporter of grain, but the harvest fell to 53 million tonnes in 2022 from a record 86 million tonnes in 2021.

Another key part of the economy is the metal industry, but production fell by 71% after several plants were destroyed.

In 2023, Ukraine’s government projects the economy to grow by 1%, following a slightly improved situation in the transport, retail and construction sectors.
