On Tuesday, Finland officially became the 31st member state of the NATO military alliance, reports CNN.
Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto sealed the country’s accession during a formal ceremony at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg were present.
Now only Sweden’s application to join the alliance remains, but both Turkey and Hungary have held off approving Sweden’s bid.
