Georgia Withdraws ‘Foreign Agents’ Bill after Days of Protests

On Thursday, Georgia’s ruling party said it will withdraw the “foreign agents” bill after it was heavily criticized for being authoritarian and Russian-inspired, according to Reuters.

The proposal would require organizations and media with more than 20% foreign funding to be registered as foreign agents.

The proposal has led to widespread demonstrations, with thousands of pro-EU and pro-Western protesters clashing with police in the capital Tbilisi for several days.
