On Wednesday, Amazon announced it plans to shut down its charity donation program AmazonSmile by Feb. 20, as the company cuts costs.
Through the program, called AmazonSmile, the company donated a percentage of purchases to a charity of users’ choice.
Since its launch in 2013, the program has donated almost $500 million to charities, with an average donation below $230.
The decision comes as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy undergoes a review of the company’s costs amid a worsening economic outlook and slowing growth.
