On Thursday, New Mexico prosecutors announced they would file criminal charges of involuntary manslaughter against actor Alec Baldwin over the death of Halyna Hutchins.
“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew.”
– Mary Carmack-Altwies, District Attorney
In October 2021, Baldwin fatally shot the cinematographer on the set of the western film “Rust,” with a live round from a gun prop he believed was filled with blanks.
The film’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, responsible for the weapons on the set, will also be charged. Assistant director David Halls has signed a plea deal for negligent use of a deadly weapon.
In Octboer 2022, Baldwin and the “Rust” film crew settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the Hutchins family and agreed to pay an undisclosed sum.
