Taliban Bans Women from Universities in Afghanistan

On Tuesday, the Taliban Ministry of Higher Education suspended university classes for female students until further notice.

In August 2021, when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, universities remained open for women but separated from male students.

Earlier this year, the Taliban closed down girls’ secondary school, women are now essentially barred from the classrooms after sixth grade.

“This unacceptable stance will have significant consequences for the Taliban and will further alienate the Taliban from the international community.”
