Henry Cavill Will Not Return as Superman

Actor Henry Cavill will not be recast as Superman by the new bosses at DC Studios, less than two months after he announced his return to the role.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”

In October, Cavill, 39, announced he would be returning as Superman, after making a cameo appearance as the Man of Steel during the credits of Black Adam.

On Wednesday, James Gunn tweeted that the next Superman movie will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, therefore the character will not be played by Cavill.

In October, Cavill also announced he would step down as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s “The Witcher” series, and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
