Missile Strike in Poland Caused by Ukrainian Air Defence

On Wednesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the deadly explosion in Poland that killed two was likely the result of Ukrainian anti-aircraft fire.

“Our preliminary analysis suggests that the incident was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile fired to defend Ukrainian territory against Russian cruise missile attacks.”

Preliminary assessments suggest the missile was launched by Ukrainian forces to intercept the incoming Russian missile barrage against Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure on Tuesday.

However, the Secretary General does not blame Ukraine stating that “Russia bears ultimate responsibility as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine”.

“An investigation into this incident is ongoing, and we need to await its outcome … But we have no indication that this was the result of a deliberate attack.”
