Meal delivery service HelloFresh allegedly obtains coconut milk from monkey labor in Thailand, according to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
“Monkeys are chained around the neck and forced to toil day in and day out, all for HelloFresh and other companies that lack a conscience.”
– Tracy Reiman, PETA’s Executive Vice President
On Monday, a PETA investigation found evidence for animal abuse at 57 operations in Thailand, where monkeys are chained, whipped, beaten, and forced to pick coconuts.
For years, PETA has urged companies and people to stop buying canned coconut milk from Thailand due to its abuse claims. They are now calling for the boycott of the meal delivery service.
HelloFresh said the company has received written assurances from its suppliers that the coconuts are not procured using monkeys.
In the third quarter, HelloFresh had 7.5 million active customers which netted it more than $1.9 billion in revenue.
