The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda called for highly polluting emerging economies including China and India, to pay climate reparations.
“We all know that the People’s Republic of China, India – they’re major polluters, and the polluter must pay. I don’t think that there’s any free pass for any country and I don’t say this with any acrimony.”

Prime Minister Gaston Browne, representing the Association of Small Island States (AOSIS) negotiating bloc, said that China and India have a responsibility to pay into a climate compensation fund.
The world’s first- and third-biggest greenhouse gas emitters, though still emerging economies, should contribute into a fund to help countries hit by climate change related disasters.
Climate vulnerable nations have so far demanded climate reparations from historical polluters like the US, UK, and EU.
