Tesla CEO Elon Musk has acquired Twitter and fired Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and the head of legal policy Vijaya Gadde.
On Thursday, Musk tweeted “The bird is freed” after completing his $44 billion acquisition of the social media company.
In April, Twitter accepted Musk’s proposal to buy the business. However, it became unclear if Musk would follow through, after the firm failed to disclose the number of fake accounts on the platform.
Twitter later sued Musk when he sought to terminate the deal and a Delaware Chancery Court ruled that Musk had until Oct. 28 to complete the Twitter deal or head to trial.
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far-right wing and far left-wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.“

Earlier this week, Musk arrived at Twitter headquarters carrying a sink, tweeting “Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in!”
