Rishi Sunak Wins Conservative Party Leadership, Will Become Next British Prime Minister

Former finance minister Rishi Sunak will become the next prime minister of the UK after challenger Penny Mordaunt failed to secure enough support.

Sunak managed to secure the support of almost 150 lawmakers, while candidate Penny Moraunt, leader of the House of Commons only received support from 30.

Sunak, 42, will become UK’s first leader of colour and the first Hindu to take the office. He will also be the youngest prime minister in more than 200 years.

On Sunday, former prime minister Boris Johnson dropped out of the race after securing the backing of 102 legislators
