On Tuesday, the European Parliament approved a law that will require companies to ensure that every smartphone, tablet and camera adopts the same charger by 2024.
The rule will probably have the biggest impact on Apple and its products, as the tech giant will be required to switch to the more common USB-C format.
E-readers, earbuds and similar devices that require charging are also affected and will force companies like Samsung, Huawei and Amazon to adapt.
The Europe Commission has estimated that moving to a single charger will save Europeans about €250 million ($247.3 million).
