Amazon Raises Hourly Wages at Cost of Almost $1 Billion a Year

Amazon has announced a pay increase for hourly employees in the US, raising the average starting wage for warehouse and transportation workers to $19 an hour.

The company’s minimum wage will remain at $15 an hour for all hourly workers in the US.

Starting pay for jobs in customer fulfillment and transportation groups will increase to $16 an hour.

Amazon is the second-largest private employer in the US, behind Walmart Inc, and the raise will cost the company 1 billion in additional spending.
