Germany's gas storage target has been reached ahead of schedule, avoiding concerns of gas shortages this winter, according to German Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
The target goal of achieving 85% storage capacity by October, might already be accomplished by the start of September, according to Habeck's ministry.
Storage levels have already risen to almost 82%, the next goal of 95% by the start of November should also be met ahead of schedule, according to the European operators' group GIE.
In 2021, Russian gas accounted for 55% of Germany's consumption. In August it had fallen to just 9.5% as Germany secures alternative sources of gas.
The majority of Germany's gas supply is currently imported from Norway and the Netherlands.
