On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to increase the size of Russia's armed forces from 1.9 million to 2.04 million.
The decree will take effect on Jan. 1 and will increase the number of combat personnel by 137,000 to 1.15 million.
In November 2017, Putin set the strength of the Russian army at 1.01 million, including non-combatants of 1.9 million.
As the war in Ukraine enters its seventh month, Russia has not revealed their losses apart from the 1,351 casualties in the first weeks.
On Monday, in a rare update, the head of Ukraine's armed forces said that nearly 9,000 of its service personnel had been killed.
